Report from the Native Digital Media Residency, Summer 2019
Six youth (3rd through 9th graders) from the Manchester/Point Arena Band of Pomo Indians participated this summer in the Native Digital Media Residency. Participants learned how to conduct interviews, record video and audio using digital filmmaking gear, edit video using Wevideo, write nature poetry, and study the Pomo language using archives. They had the opportunity to tour the KGUA radio studio in Gualala and learned to fly drones for aerial and landscape videography.
To practice their new video recording skills, participants interviewed members of the Pomo community, visited the Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands, and attended and recorded a Pomo community event (the Native Youth Wellness Gathering).
