Our aims:

First, to repatriate cultural knowledge. One aim of this archive is to improve access to recordings of native speakers of the Central Pomo and Kashaya Pomo languages for members of the Manchester/Point Arena and Kashaya Bands of Pomo Indians. While such recordings have been long kept and archived at institutions of higher education they have not been accessible to tribal communities. This resource will serve as a bridge.

Second, this resource is intended to support cultural revitalization projects that enliven the holdings in such archives, incorporating them into the lived experience of Central Coastal Pomo communities.

Third, recognizing that Pomo culture and traditions do not reside in the past, but live on into the present, this community archive will also serve ongoingly as a repository for whatever the community would like to preserve and archive. This could include oral histories, interviews, all forms of artistic self-expression, filmmaking, photographs, etc.
